On May 14, we held the WooCommerce E-commerce Workshop in Lagos, bringing together entrepreneurs from the Algarve for an intensive two-hour event: “Introduction to E-commerce – How to start selling on the Internet with WooCommerce”.
The goal was ambitious: to end the session with a functional store on the air. Goal achieved – each participant left with all the knowledge they needed to launch their online store simply, quickly and securely.
WHAT WE DID IN 120 MINUTES
– Technical setup – installation of WordPress in 1 click and activation of free SSL; result: secure https site
– WooCommerce – 6-step wizard (Portugal, euro, kilos); result: store created and ready to receive orders
– Payments and shipping – full checkout tested live with MB Way and credit card
– Product – upload WebP 1200 × 1200 px images and create variations; result: optimized and responsive product page
– Design and GDPR – Astra theme configured, legal pages published; result: mobile-first experience ready and compliant with the law
– Lightning launch – test orders, confirmation emails and automatic PDF invoice generation
In addition to the demonstrations, each participant received a complementary manual with pre-launch checklists, good initial marketing practices and a list of essential plugins for WooCommerce.
5 TAKEAWAYS THAT ENTREPRENEURS TOOK HOME
1. Low entry costs – all you need is a .pt domain and hosting configured for e-commerce.
2. Time is money – you can have a basic store up and running in less than 2 hours.
3. Local payments matter – MB Way increases mobile conversion.
4. Image sells – square photos, neutral backgrounds and uniform size inspire confidence and improve SEO.
5. SEO starts today – each product should have a clear title, meta description with call to action and short URL.
